Not sure if it still functions. The codec is quite old, but is the OSX version.

If the overwhelming majority of the footage is DVCPRO-HD, and it sounds like it is, you are probably better off converting everything else to that. If you convert to ProRes, you will end up triple compressing it before final output (HDV-ProRes-DVCPROHD).
If your DVCPRO-HD footage was tape based and not file based, there might be some advantage to capturing everything ProRes and editing ProRes. But with file based footage, its probably more hassle than its worth.

There are no editing apps that I know of that can use H.264 effectively. Certainly not Avid or FCP. It’s processor intensive to encode/decode which kills your RT performance.

Are you sure the ESC key isn’t working? If you have a large drive and don’t set a file size limit (or set a really long one) in preferences, it can take a VERY long time to close the file. During “Capture Now” FCP builds a temp file the size of the available space (or the size of your file size limit) in the scratch disk during capture and then ‘trims it down’ when you stop capture by pressing the ESC key.
If this isn’t the problem, then Walter is probably correct…your camera is not communicating correctly with FCP. You may have to capture from a different device.

You exported then imported and married the imported video to your original audio, right…?
It really looks to me like its audio related. Is it 48k or some weird sample rate? If its not 48k, or FCP thinks its not 48k, FCP might be trying to alter the video to keep sync.
If all appears normal, you might want to try to put the audio tracks into Compressor and re-export as 16 bit/48k and see if it has any effect.

You did render this, right?

You can export with the Animation codec but the clip must NOT be rendered.
If you render, the export draws on the render file, which of course is composited with the background…so your alpha will not be preserved.
Remove the background….leave un-rendered. Export using the Animation codec (millions +)

It shouldn’t be a problem. Can you play other DVCPROHD movies but not these?
My guess is your codec is missing or damaged.
