[Phil Lister] “Also, when using P2 audio, you can’t use the Premiere Stereo filters? Just the Mono ones?”

That’s cause P2 footage is imported as 4 mono tracks, and the default P2 sequences have 4 mono audio tracks. In CS4, only Mono effects can be applied to mono tracks and vise-versa.

If you want Premiere to treat the audio differently, select all the clips and select Modify>Audio Channels… (this must be done before any of the clips has been placed in a timeline.)

Modify Audio Channels is very useful when dealing with footage which was shot dual mono on a consumer camera. (Which Premiere will import as stereo.)

The current version of Premiere doesn’t have this silly mono and stereo versions of effects.

  • Markers aren’t really meant for this kinda usage. Petros’s solution is the best one for rendering the sequence you already have. In future, you might consider editing each piece in a separate sequence. You can then nest the sequences to string your entire project together. You can convert your current project to this setup by selecting all the clips between each set of markers and selecting “replace with sequence” or something like that.

What happens when you drag the clip onto the new item icon in the browser to automatically create a matched sequence?

  • I’ve had problems with Premiere and Quicktime not reading aspect ratios correctly. Try rendering in a non .mov format. (this is assuming there is one that iDVD reads… I’ve never used iDVD my self, I always use Encore.)

Since the media must be online, you still need to have a working copy of FCP7 around as long as you want to get to your old projects….that could really stink in a few years.

[Don Priess] “I actually just discovered a workaround. I copied the newly shot files in the corresponding folders: VIDEO – CLIPS – ICONS – AUDIO into the corresponding sub folders in the existing CONTENTS folder in my Project folder.”

I’ve been shooting with P2 and PP for 3 years, and this is what I do.

I tried putting each card in it’s own folder, but clips spanned between cards didn’t come out. (this was on CS3, I’m assuming they still dont.)

The other way to deal with this is to use a windows computer for downloading. Windows offers a “merge folders” option which will combine the two CONTENTS folders together rather then overwriting the old one.

Yeah, ok… That was pretty clear. I couldn’t stand to watch the FCPX stabilized stuff… made my eyes water.

What ever it is, I’ve never seen it before. I started working with pro ENG cameras before CMOS sensors became common, so my experience with rolling shutter is non existent.
Until about a month ago when I picked out a Canon Vixia for my father, who borrowed one from a friend to film a class, and loved it so much he wanted his own, I’d only ever used CCD cameras.

Can someone who’s used the stabilizer feature in FCPX/ iMovie, (which ever this was edited in) tell me if that is what’s causing the rippling in some of the shots?

It seems like what I see in this video was exactly what I would expect a tool called “Warp stabilizer” to do: Move the center of the image with respect to the edges, squishing and expanding the outer edges of the image to couter camera shake.

Anyway, if that’s what it is, it made the video almost unwatchable for me, seeing the edges of the image gyrate like that. I had to rest my eyes after watching the video it messed with them so bad.
