My 16:9 Premiere export always plays as 4:3 clip after iDVD!! Asap
I just finished a project that I need to turn in soon on dvd. It was shot in hd and edited in premiere pro cs5. I have tried exporting it a million different ways and every time when I put the 16:9 project onto idvd after it burns it plays the video back in 4:3 aspect ratio….why is it doing this??? I read somewhere that you have to “flag” the video so iDVD can put it in the correct aspect ratio…I can’t figure it out for the life of me….I went on apples website and followed what they suggested…nothing…I used mpegstream clip and the anamorphizer program or whatever its called and that didn’t work!! Still playing back as 4:3 after idvd burning. And yes, the idvd is set to 16:9. Please help?? Im not sure if it’s something to do with the way I export in premiere or something about idvd

Run the newest iDVD update. I had the same issue last school year, but with the most recent update from the summer, that problem has disappeared. Good luck.

If the file is like uncompressed avi is does not carry a flag.

The file is mov…I have 720×480 version and a 1920×1080 version

To avoid flagging issues, try exporting as 854×480 (Square Pixels) instead.

I’ve had problems with Premiere and Quicktime not reading aspect ratios correctly. Try rendering in a non .mov format. (this is assuming there is one that iDVD reads… I’ve never used iDVD my self, I always use Encore.)

I’m reviewing the situation … sorry, “Oliver!” reference. Anyway, after fighting tooth and nail with Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Media Encoder (CS5.5) on OS X Lion on the Mac Pro with both the ATI 57XX and Quadro 4000, I’ve decided to do pitched battle with iDVD. I honestly would prefer to go with Encore as well, but it just doesn’t fit the finished product as well. The movie was shot and rendered in 16×9 and numerous attempts to “engage” the mode in iDVD have only ended up in a mild late night headache and some odd not-quite-the-aspect-ratio-I-paid-for video. I think the big problem is, the CODECs suggested in the various FCP-to-iDVD tutorials aren’t directly available to me in Media Encoder (unless I’m missing something), but the latest one is the h.264 encoding at 853×480 in square pixels – I’ll letcha know how it fleshes out, seeing how I’m not going to get any sleep until I have at least a master DVD burned.

Continuing saga …
Exporting to the Avid DV100 CODEC at 853×480 (square pixels) has produced a preview at 16×9. Now to let iDVD chew on that and (pray-pray-pray) make a master. So I can go to bed.
If you don’t hear from me, I’ve been taken away for assaulting a Mac Pro.

Well kids, it worked! My final encode, using the settings I said, plays at 16×9 on my PC, after error-free encode.
Now … sleeeeep.
