Another trick is to use a different background than what is in your photo – a lot of times people get stuck trying to recreate the photo when not necessary. Cut out the FG elements and put a new background to create the effect.

Like most people we leave our media in the FCP Capture and Render folders on our media Raid.
In addition, we make a project folder on the media raid that contains all our other external files: gfx, music, docs, encodes, FCP back ups, etc.
When we archive a project (just the media from the final timeline) to Blu-ray, we include the project folder.

We have three FCP systems and have successfully used a stand alone Pioneer Blu-Ray burner using Toast Titanium. We usually will use Media Manager in FCP to archive our final edits to a new project including gfx, renders, and audio. Also we throw what ever elements (omf, mixes, gfx files, docs) onto the disc. Usually a project will fit onto a standard (25gigs) or Dual Layer (50gigs) BD disk.

  • Could also be a memory issue. Make sure you close other applications, timelines etc.

I just did this from a Red Camera file ingested as Pro Res HQ. Outputted a QT at 29.97i with Compressor and it worked like a charm. No issues with the pulldown etc except for one title. I had some hits on the title which I attributed to the conversion. Otherwise, pix looked great.

We have used this external Blu-ray burner with great success. Compressor to make m2v file, Adobe Encore to make Blu-ray folder, Toast to burn disc.
    works like a charm.
Also, we find we can archive our FCP projects to data BD’s.

Yes, I think I will go with the ProRes HQ and see how it works. We often use ProRes for video, but given it is a graphics job, and will play Blu Ray I was wondering if there is any benefit to the Uncompressed setting for sharpness.

Agreed, we have the Sony tool running on a Dual 2.6 ghz PowerPC as well as several Intel G5’s with no problems. Even have edited XDCam 1080 24p and added DVCPro50 footage to the project and run it with out render (green lines) on the older G5.

    Will probably go with this.
Using it to back up FCP Media Managed back ups.
