23.98p to 29.97i
Posted by Chris Wasmer on June 12, 2009 at 2:31 pmNeed to convert an Apple ProRes 422 HQ, 23.98p timeline to a 29.97i dropframe, Quicktime file.
What’s the best way to do this?
Just drop it in a 29.97 timeline and render?
Compressor?
???

June 12, 2009 at 2:24 pmI believe that Compressor will give you better results, but take longer. If you use the correct settings in Compressor you can take advantage of its optical flow tech.

June 12, 2009 at 2:44 pmI just did this from a Red Camera file ingested as Pro Res HQ. Outputted a QT at 29.97i with Compressor and it worked like a charm. No issues with the pulldown etc except for one title. I had some hits on the title which I attributed to the conversion. Otherwise, pix looked great.

September 4, 2009 at 1:00 amJust as an example .. what would the settings be to go from 23.98p to 29.97i. Some details are missing here. Timeline? FCP, Compressor’s frame controls, upper lower ?

September 4, 2009 at 4:02 amI ended up using After Effects to convert 24p to 29.97i and to add pulldown. Results were great.
I could not find a way for Compressor to add pulldown.
