Do you have anything else plugged into the FW800 ports besides your G-Raid?

Rats! You may be right. The DP 2.5 was the first liquid-cooled model from June 2004. It was worth a shot.

Without a doubt, you have a slow coolant leak. The cooling system sits right on top of the CPU’s and is slowly leaking. The good news: Apple will fix it for free.

My dual 2.7 from 2005 died in May 2009. I took it to an Apple store and was charged $85 for them to tell me that either the CPU or motherboard or both were faulty. I accepted this as an answer.

I put the computer away expecting one day to part it out on eBay. February 2010: I decide to part it out but first did a quick internet search on the machine’s value. I found a site that explained how to get these faulty machines fixed for free.

I took my machine apart (not easy) and found dried coolant between the CPU and cooling system. I called Apple and talked with their techies who ask me to send photos.

The case was verified and I was told to drop the machine back at the Apple Store. They put NEW CPU in a 5 year old computer! I’m still using the machine. Good Luck!

  • Contact Apple directly. A friend of mine recently upgraded from FCP 4 to FCP 5 this way.

  • You should also try panning the audio channels hard left and hard right and then decide which channel sounds best for that particular edit.

The blu-ray to capture card thingy probably won’t work. Just open the .mt2s files in Mpeg Streamclip and convert away. (be sure to select “all files” upon import so the .mt2s files aren’t greyed out)

This may be useful. They are police lights but could easily be modified/color corrected:

July 1, 2008 at 10:42 pm in reply to: ProRes HQ only allows 2:2:2:4?

[Jeremy Garchow] “On my Kona3 I can, yes, but I think you’re setup improperly as the KOna handles pulldown, not FCP”

I’m not entirely sure of that…I can select different pulldown patterns from the RT menu and easily see the differences on the Panasonic plasma even with the Kona set at 2:3:3:2.

Your instructions were very precise and clear, but it’s not happening for me. For now I’m using Uncompressed as my sequence compressor and it’s working fine; clean 3:2 pulldown. ProRes HQ won’t work for me. Thanks for your help Jeremy!
