July 1, 2008 at 9:09 pm in reply to: ProRes HQ only allows 2:2:2:4?

2:2:2:4 is the only option in the RT menu for the sequence. If I select ProRes or Uncompressed as the sequence codec, I get all 3 pulldown options in the RT menu. Machine: MacPro 3.0Ghz Dual 6GB Ram

I need 3:2 pulldown added to my 23.976 sequence because it’s playing out to a client monitor (Panasonic TH-42PZ77U) which doesn’t support 24p native.

Are you able to playback ProRes HQ from your timeline with 2:3:2:3 selected in the RT menu??

Can you do quick test for me? Load the Sequence preset 1080p 23.98 ProRes HQ. Do you only see 2:2:2:4 as the pulldown pattern in the RT menu?

    Thanks for your help!

Thanks Jeremy; It’s crazy-no worky. If I make the sequence Uncompressed or standard ProRes, all is well. With ProRes HQ I only get 2:2:2:4 playback.

Thanks Jeremy. I forgot to mention I have a LHe. The Kona card is set to 2:3:2:3 but FCP will only allow 2:2:2:4 from the RT menu in the timeline.

In DVD Studio Pro, flag the video for 16×9 playback. This will also letterbox it to 4×3 on those displays.

You only need to to go to 720×486 (or 720×480) if you are taking this into a edit situation before going to DVD. If you’re going straight to DVD, work in 854×480 square and send it out that way.

Use square pixels for 864×486 for your comps, then render720x486 non-square pixels for output.

Hello Jeremy. I assumed the footage was 60i because he said is was shot 24p and has 3:2 pulldown in it. That doesn’t seem to be the case here. You are correct that Cinema Tools needs 60i source footage to work. I’m not familiar with 60p footage that has 3:2 pulldown it in. How’s that possible?

I did a test on 720p60 footage and it works fine. My settings were:
    Capture mode: Field1-Field2
    Fields: Style1 AA
Frames: Conform to 23.976 with the “Standard Upper/Lower” box checked
    File: Create New

You’ll need to tell Cinema Tools where your A frame is. My clip was WWSSW which makes the A frame on timecode numbers 0 and 5. (This is the AA thing in the settings above) Select BB or BC….etc based on which timecode frame you footage starts on.

I’ve used Cinema Tools to do this. Open a clip in Cinema Tools that you want to remove the pulldown from. Click the “reverse telecine” button at the bottom of the clip. These are the setting I’ve used, but you may have to tweek them based on your clips.
    Capture Mode: Field 1 only
    Fields: Style1 A
Frames Conform to 23.976 do not check “Standard upper/lower”
File: New or same, depending on if you want your files overwritten or not.
