you need to resize the window, the timeline is at the bottom, you should be able to bring your cursor to the bottom of the window and grab the line to bring the timeline back up.

turn down your preview rate, or do a ram render (shift b) to see a region at full quality.

sounds like maybe you need to click the pan/crop icon and right click the image and select match output aspect.

possible heat issue on the core? when was the last time you cracked open your box and blown out the dust bunnies?

are your video files on your main system drive (i.e. the drive that contains program files and operating system)? that could be part of your problem if so. You should have your video files on a separate physical drive so that system processes do not interfere with the playback ability of the video files.

when’s the last time you defragged your drive. could be that your hard drive is working overtime to play the files.

curious, is your hard drive that you are capturing to formatted as FAT32 or NTFS. If the former, you need to format the drive to NTFS in order to get larger files.

in order to ‘save’ a video out, you have to render it or use print to tape. Vegas is a non-destructive editor, it doesn’t manipulate the source files, it merely creates a ‘database’ file that tells it what parts of each file to use in the final output. Vegas has many options for rendering.
