Images are squeezed
Hey all… I’m new to the forum and looking for some help. I’m making a video using Sony Vegas 7.0. It is set to render in wide screen. I’ve created a photo sideshow in Photodex’s Proshow Producer also set to render in wide screen. Since its easier for me to throw the photos together in Proshow, I create my avi and then just put the avi in Sony Vegas with the rest of the video I’ve edited. But my proshow file is being squeezed and I cant figure out what I’m doing wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

sounds like maybe you need to click the pan/crop icon and right click the image and select match output aspect.

I would right-click on the video once it’s on the Vegas timeline and go to the Properties. Then check the Media tab and make sure the Pixel Aspect Ratio is set correctly. I’m betting it says 0.9091 (NTSC DV) or the PAL equivalent. Just set the proper value from the list (e.g., NTSC DV Widescreen is 1.2121). This should unsqueeze the video if it truly is widescreen.

Thank you for your response. I just realized the problem is not with Sony, it is with PROSHOW. It is set to NTSC DV16:9 but will not render that way. I’ve made dozens of videos this way in the past so I believe I am doing it correctly… But who knows, I could be overlooking something so stupid… I’ll call tech support in the am…
The only other thing, that just dawned on me is that I just recently had to do a system recovery and since then I’m getting pop up dialog boxes telling me that I have missing codecs. The dialog box will appear as soon as I open my VIDEOS folder or if I open a DVD player. SOOOOO… I’ll have to figure out how to fix that and hope that is the problem???
I have NO idea what codecs are or how they work but I’m guessing I need them…:)

Codec stands for compression-decompression. Codecs are what you use to render, work with or capture video. Generally Vegas already comes with what you need but sometimes you have to add one. (don’t ask how cause I never needed to do that). Many times here is posts I read how someone can’t play or capture a certain video. They may not have the needed codec on their computer.Now, why are you doung double work? Using this ProShow? You can create your slide show directly in Vegas and the scripts from either Excalibur or Ultimate S (Vasst) will automate the process giving you many choices on setting up yur slide show. In many of the commerccial DVD’s I produce the video includes some sort of slide show or still image sequence at various points in the video.
If you created your slide show in a different program and rendered it to an AVI, you’ve lost your ability to ‘tweak’ the slides in Vegas.
Just make sure your aspect ratio is set for wide screen 16:9 for the entire project.
