I’m pretty sure it’s not the monitor. I saw similar things happen when we first got our monitor. Choosing the correct Easy Setup and confirming the parameters are correct is key. We were editing P2 DVCPro HD 720P23.98. What I found was making sure the framerate was 59.94 (not 23.98) and 8-bit (not 10-bit) for bit depth. Then the timeline played perfectly.

I’d recommend using Compressor to go to ProRes. Make sure your frame sizes match – also, your framerates. Your edit will be much smoother that way. As to whether they’ll look the same, I think not. One camera is high-def and the other is standard-def.

That action will delete the clip from your drive. Perhaps the folder is Locked and that’s preventing the delete.

I’m curious why you chose DNxHD rather than ProRes – a codec designed specifically for smooth editing within FCP. If either is on, you can switch off Frame Blending and/or Motion Blur in the Motion tab. Try that.

Generally, it’s best to Export a self-contained Quicktime Using Current Settings from your timeline then use that in Compressor to encode the mv2 & ac3 files. A data rate of 8mbps is asking for trouble. You risk compatibility and playback issues. Many recommend (with programs less than 60 minutes) using a CBR of 6.5mbps and that assumes you’re using an ac3 rather than aiff audio file.

I’d archive (to whatever medium you choose – tape, LTO tape, hard drive, DVD or Blu-ray) all the original/native files you used in your edit. H.264 is not an FCP-supported edit codec. So if you recompressed your files to H.264 for archive, you’d have to recompress them again to edit, with a resultant large loss of quality.

I know that in Compressor’s Inspector in the Filters tab you have the option of specifying 709 color space. However, that may be the default color space for ProRes4444. Someone more expert than I may chime in with more detaila.
