Posted by Daniel Garriga on August 19, 2010 at 10:35 pmHi,
I have a Panasonic BT-LH1700WP HD monitor and I am having a hard time getting the external video option in FCP to sync with the monitor so the video plays. I have a Blackmagic Decklink 6.0 HD Extreme card and a BNC cable connected out of the card and into the SDI in on the monitor.I have gone to Video playback in the VIEW dropdown and have clicked HDTV 1080 options and it detects a signal, but… The

August 19, 2010 at 10:53 pmYou probably need to set your Playback offset to 0. FCP defaults to 4

August 20, 2010 at 4:29 pmOk, did that. But now I’m not even getting ANY picture. Not even when i click single frame and show current like I was getting before. The signal is there but no picture.

August 20, 2010 at 9:08 pmIn Video Playback do you have Blackmagic settings, too? I don’t know Blackmagic, but it’s probably similar to AJA’s Kona. Look for a 1080i 29.97 8-bit playback choice. And External Video should be set to All Frames.

Double Check your Easy Setup. Playback offset has zero to do with you getting a picture or not.
If you’re not getting a picture than your Sequence settings don’t match your Output Settings. Choosing the correct Easy Setup will be the easiest way to do this.

August 26, 2010 at 2:30 pmThanks! I did that and now the only way I am getting picture is when I click SHOW CURRENT in the External Video option in VIEW. One frame of video comes up and stays there even when I play down my seq. If i stop it at another point in the SEQ and click SHOW CURRENT again then whatever frame i had it parked at shows up.
How do i get this monitor to play the video?!
Thanks

August 26, 2010 at 4:46 pmI’m pretty sure it’s not the monitor. I saw similar things happen when we first got our monitor. Choosing the correct Easy Setup and confirming the parameters are correct is key. We were editing P2 DVCPro HD 720P23.98. What I found was making sure the framerate was 59.94 (not 23.98) and 8-bit (not 10-bit) for bit depth. Then the timeline played perfectly.
