I, too, monitor via the K3 and through a Yamaha mixer. But I have trusty $15 stereo speakers to listen directly from the MacPro. There is value to listening to a mix through cheap speakers.

Try an audio mixdown: Sequence Menu>Render Only>Audio Mixdown. Be aware that using anything downloaded from iTunes that has copyright protection can lead to serious liability. I’ve seen it happen.

I usually keep it on my media drive inside the capture scratch folder in the project folder there. That way I can archive all the project’s media easily since it’s all in the same place.

  • I’m not sure if all plug-ins work with both, but many do. Usually the developer’s site will say one way or the other.

  • I always export a QT movie (ref or self-contained) and use that as the source for conversion in Compressor, Squeeze, etc. Try using the QT movie you exported and see what happens. If it doesn’t help, trash prefs and repair permissions.

  • AT&T phones cause us constant pain in our audio room. They need to be turned off, not just silenced. In our case it’s getting in through the condenser mics. When this first started happening I thought the mics were starting to go south. The unfortunate part is proper grounding doesn’t seem to prevent this interference. We’re using star-point grounding and still have this problem.

Hi, Chris. I think you can do this with Compressor if you use a Program Stream preset. The preset is in Apple>Formats>MPEG-2 folder. You want the Program Stream preset. Switch the Stream Usage to SD-DVD in the Encoder tab> Quality tab. Try it with the parameters in the preset, but you can always adjust those if you want.

Try MPEG Streamclip https://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html. It should do the trick.

mv2s from Compressor have no sound. You need to use a second preset in addition to the DVD 90-Minute one you used for the mv2. Use the Dolby Difital Professional 2.0 (ac3) preset in the same folder as the mv2 preset. Make the following changes using the inspector (after dropping the preset on the source): in the Encoder tab > Audio tab change the Dialog Normalization to -31 from -27. In the Preprocessing tab change Film Standard Compression to None. Save As whatever you want to cvall it and it will appear in the Custom folder in Compressor for future use.

  • Be sure to decide on a frame rate and use the same one on both shoots. The DP will probably have the most input on this, but your delivery specs might call for a specific rate.
