Transitions look ok in FCP, not when exported via QT Conversion
Hey,
I have an issue where even when fully rendered, a sequence looks fine in FCP during the transitions. However when it’s exported via QT Conversion to H.264, the cross-fade and fade-in/out transitions can jump around. Here’s a quick sample (couple seconds, ~2.5 megs), kind of loud so watch the volume when you open the link:

Right at the beginning during the fade in, it does its thing, then right after the fade in completes it jumps back to the beginning of the clip before the fade starts and plays from there. This seems odd as it looks fine in FCP, and there’s plenty of handle space before the clip (talking on the order of minutes here). I’ve tried changing the alignment of the fade (on edit, middle, end), but that doesn’t help. The export settings I’ve fiddled with are the frame re-ordering (on and off), keyframing (auto and every 24 frames, which is the default), and unrestricted/auto data rates, then tried exporting it with QT Conversion to DV/DVPRO. Same thing.
If I export it using “Export to Quicktime Movie” it works, but obviously that’s not good for content delivery on the web.
I haven’t bothered running it through compressor yet as this is just a quickie set of test shots.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or to a forum post I missed while searching for similar problems?

I always export a QT movie (ref or self-contained) and use that as the source for conversion in Compressor, Squeeze, etc. Try using the QT movie you exported and see what happens. If it doesn’t help, trash prefs and repair permissions.

A heads up for the future: In most cases it is better to export the full quicktime native then convert, then it is to convert during your export. Sometimes it’s fine to go out through Compressor (export using compressor) but it is more likely to crash then if you just export native then compress.

Ran it through Compressor… works fine.
How irritating, especially since I just used a quicktime export components setting in compressor.
