Is the clip in the timeline and the playhead over it? And you can see the clip in the Canvas?

Hi, Ty. I’m not sure why you’re seeing what you’re seeing. Have you tried trashing prefs and repairing permissions? A possible work-around would be to put a video slug on the video track above the problem track to block the extra frames.

H.264 is not an editing codec. Best bet is to change the H.264 to ProRes using Compresser, then edit with that. Searc the Cow on the workflow for that. Hopefully, your H.264 was made with a high data rate or your quality will suffer.

DV is not going to give you the best quality. I’d suggest 8-bit uncompressed or ProRes. If your computer can’t handle those try DVCPro 50.

I’m not sure why you are experiencing the color shift, etc. I don’t use the suggested workflow in the Ken Stone article. Instead, I first export using File>Export QT movie>Use current settings. Do not check Recompress Frames and it can be either a Self-Contained Movie or ref movie (uncheck make self-contained). At this point you can open the exported file to see what it looks like in QT Player. If you like what you see use Compressor to make the h.264 movie. Compressor will do a much better job compared to QT Pro, although, it will take time. Be sure to choose the Best settings in all places in the Encoder tab of the Inspector (in Compressor).

Try deleting renders with Render Manager and re-render.

I recall some recent threads about ingesting mts clips. Do a search for mts and see what pops up.

June 7, 2009 at 1:31 am in reply to: hardware/software requirements for P2 card

What procedure are you using to off-load the P2 cards? We do it by of-loading the P2 to a hard drive (actually 3 so we have backups). The files are copied to our RAID array then we use Log & Transfer to injest the files in FCP. Before upgrading to FCP6 we used FCP5.1.4 to do the same. It didn’t use log & transfer to bring in P2 media. Instead, in the Import menu I believe there’s a choice for P2. I’m not at the office and it’s been a while since I used FCP5 with P2 so I apologize for not being more exact.
