Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy AVCHD to web

  • Posted by Matt Sepeta on June 2, 2009 at 8:19 pm

I just finished making greenscreen proejct, and am trying ti output it from fcp for the web. I can not get the final product to look remotely close to the FCP viewer.

Workflow- Shot in 1080 24p, transcoded to .mov with voltaicHD, put footage on a HD1080 timeline, and made my key.

I am trying to follow these steps “https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/qt_h-264_movies_fcp.html”

and whenever I export the .mov it has a tinted background (want it to be pure white), and the colors are all washed out.

    Any recommendations? Thanks guys

    Good Day

    Matt,

    couple of questions —

how are you exporting your project? Are you using QT conversion, compressor, something else?
Also, if you could include a couple of screen shots, that might help us see if there is some tweaking we could recommend to the key itself — assuming your using the color key in video effects. Is that true? Are you using anything else?

How are you monitoring your edit prior to exporting.

I am monitoring it on my iMac screen, as this is a video for the homepage of a website. Whenever I do an export, I immediately bring it onto my windows machine and make sure it looks ok on that too.

I pretty much figured out the problem though, through enough trial and error! Thanks though, I appreciate the feedback

I’m not sure why you are experiencing the color shift, etc. I don’t use the suggested workflow in the Ken Stone article. Instead, I first export using File>Export QT movie>Use current settings. Do not check Recompress Frames and it can be either a Self-Contained Movie or ref movie (uncheck make self-contained). At this point you can open the exported file to see what it looks like in QT Player. If you like what you see use Compressor to make the h.264 movie. Compressor will do a much better job compared to QT Pro, although, it will take time. Be sure to choose the Best settings in all places in the Encoder tab of the Inspector (in Compressor).
