BTW, 1 Byte = 8 bits. Andy may be responding to a request for a mpeg transport stream. Their top bit rate is usually 40 to 50Mbps. Compressor tops out at 40Mbps, but I believe Episode goes to 50Mbps.

Did you render the transition? Sometimes, even if there’s no render line, the transition needs be rendered.

Make sure “Full” is checked in the Sequence menu > Render All menu, select the transition and render. I’ve seen this jump at the end of a transition before, I’m not sure why it happens, but the render often fixes it.

April 1, 2010 at 7:36 pm in reply to: Matching a still image to video – Onion skin?

It’d be a bit of a pain, but you could put the still on V1, record a short video clip & put it on V2 with 30-50% opacity. Of course you couldn’t do it in real time. Another thought (if you have a Kona card) is to use the DS Keyer in the Control Panel to key your photo (prepared first to have 30-50% opacity) over the live video. I’m not sure if that would work, but it’d be worth a test if you have the Kona.

April 1, 2010 at 5:54 pm in reply to: Compressor 3.5.1 and YouTube

Try starting with an H.264 preset in Compressor and set it to the YouTube parameters using your frame size. You might want to lower the data rate if this is to play from your site as 8Mbps will stress many internet connections.

April 1, 2010 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Audio loss under HD footage in exported .mov

I’ve no idea why the audio drops out. I’d try a couple of things. Do an audio mixdown: Sequence Menu > Render Only > Mixdown and/or use Compressor to convert the footage to match the rest of the footage. Was any audio attached to the problem clip? Perhaps it’s out of phase and cancels in your export. This would be more likely if the export was mono audio while you monitored the sequence in stereo.

I believe with ProRes there is a minimum system requirement of a G5 Quad Core. If your system is not that robust, perhaps, that’s causing the issue.

March 31, 2010 at 5:11 pm in reply to: Not able to transfer m2ts and mts files in FCP 7

This is helpful to know as I’ve not edited with mts files, yet. The workflow is very similar to the P2 workflow where the contents of each P2 card are saved inside a folder labeled as you’d label a tape reel, say, “Project Name Card 1.” After the shoot you have a bunch of folders: #1 to whatever. Then using Log & Transfer, you point toward these folders on your drive, and all the content opens up.

As I haven’t upgraded to SL, I can’t comment on whether that’d be a factor. Most folks don’t seem to be having problems with it as long as they did a clean install. I know the EX1 records audio properly. Do you have any music or SFX tracks in your timeline? Are they 48kHz? Also, with a lot of tracks there does come a point where you need to render even if all the audio is 48kHz 16 or 24 bit.

March 30, 2010 at 10:21 pm in reply to: FCE 2-camera shoot rendering issue

In FCP this would be caused if your file’s sample rate was not 48kHz. Check the sample rate of your audio files. If it’s not 48kHz, use an external program like Soundtrack Pro or QT Pro to convert the audio to PCM 48kHz 16/24 bit. You can’t do it successfully from FCP.

My machines always hold to the last choice. If I export self-contained the next time I export it opens up with that choice. I don’t know if that choice can be set as a default preference.
