It sounds like you’re plugged into a line level input instead of a mic level input. It’s possible you can switch the input to mic level in your computer audio settings. What kind of computer are you using? If you only have a line input, you’ll need a preamp. You plug your mic to the preamp input and the preamp out to the computer.

There are a lot of variables so I’m not sure how to advise you. In this kind of situation I’d test the workflow before the shoot. See if you can get together with the DP and run off 10 minutes of footage. Just let everything sit in one place. Be sure to talk all the while. Then import the video and audio into the edit system and see if they sync. Make sure the audio, after being imported, is 48kHz 16/24 bit (it should be as that’s what the ex-1` records). And make sure every take is slated with a timecode slate or a clapper. And, again, as Bill mentioned, be sure to record audio with the camera mic. If all else fails, it’ll will make syncing easier.

Sorry, I’m not familiar with a usb procedure. I know the SD cards can’t be SDHC versions, only SD.

Try stretching with Andy’s plugin. It allows you to define a “safe” center area which is stretched less (if at all) than the outside area.

The directory is what tells the OS where everything is located, so having that “right” is very important. If you decide to use Disk Warrior, run it first, then Repair Permissions. DW will allow you to cancel before it writes the new directory to the drive. I use DW at least once a month as maintenance on all my active drives.

Given the already archival-looking clips, zooming them full seems to work fairly well. I’m not sure how you stretched the clips, but if you haven’t already, checkout Andy Mees’, “Andy’s Elastic Aspect” plugin.

Audio doesn’t have a frame rate per se. It runs according to its sample rate. Try using Soundtrack Pro or Quicktime Pro to open one of your audio files and export it as PCM 48kHz 16 bit. Then see how that matches up with your video. You can’t do this from inside FCP. It has to be an external program.
