Both these examples can be done in Motion. It is a 3-D app. And it has a very good tracker as well. There are free Motion tutorials on the Cow, but if you’re serious about learning Motion, pick up Stephen Smith’s excellent tutorial, also available on the Cow. It will get you up to speed quickly.

I’m not sure what you’re asking, but you can layer shots using different video tracks. For instance, put your background on V1. Then put your foreground on V2. You can put another foreground image on V3, etc. The bottom layer is the bkg, higher layers go on top of each successive layer. So higher layers don’t obscure lower layers, they need to be keyed or rotoscoped so only the desired elements in that layer are seen.

Try it in Compressor. Export from FCP (NOT using QT Conversion) a ref or self-contained file using Current Settings. Bring that into Compressor and be sure to turn on and adjust Frame Controls. FCP doesn’t do a great job of resizing or re-timing.

In the Motion tab keyframe a fade-up using opacity. Then apply the edge wipe. Experiment with applying some feathering to see how that looks. You can probably also do this with a Nest.

If you want to be able to monitor with confidence so that what you see is what you get, you need two items. First, an input/output card or device that is connected to the second item, a high-quality broadcast monitor. Excellent I/O cards/devices are made by Kona, Blackmagic, Matrox and others. High-quality monitors are made by FSI, TV Logic and others. One more thing – you’ll probably need a fast RAID to handle high-def media. Look to your left and right on this page to find RAID vendors.
