First I would use a very large image—that way when your 5 moves towards the camera it doesn’t pixelate. In the comp, duplicate your 5 dollar bill and mask the “5” that you want to float away. I would probably enable 3D space and just animate the position & rotation. Also you might want to consider using some kind of distortion like bezier warp to make it peel off the bill, doesn’t need to be much.

Select the light and press quickly “AA” to open the light options and make sure “cast shadows” is on. Click the layer you want to cast shadows, it has to have have 3D enabled, then press “AA” quickly to open the material options and make sure “cast shadows” is on. Finally select the shadow catcher layer, enable 3D and press “aa” quickly to make sure accept shadows is on.
I made a simple project, so you can see the setup.

Those are illustrator paths, right. First, in illustrator, create a docuement that this the same size as your final comp in AE will be(this way when you copy pahts everything should line up)> Next, I would break out each path to it’s own layer. The last turn that goes left and offscreen, I would make each color it’s own layer separate from the rest of the path, so you can layer it on top in AE. Save as .ai
Now import as a comp into AE. With illustrator open, copy the paths from each layer and paste them to the corresponding layer in AE, if the sizes are the same, they should create mask paths corresponding to the path you copied from AI. Add a generate stroke effect, animate end points.

I wouldn’t render the footage, I would put the masked in a precomp(“shift+cntl+c”) and add Pixel Motion Blur to the precomp. It will save you one render.

Live Photoshop 3D is no longer supported, confirmed.
AE does have it’s own 3D engine now, that can use the graphics card(provided your’s is supported) or the CPU(Very slow). Create your comp and hit the advanced tab(or press cntl + K to access comp settings). change the renderer from Classic 3D to Ray Traced 3D. You can lower the quality to by pressing “options”, this can make it work faster, raise quality before rendering. Create your text, make it 3d and press AA to get to the geometry settings. \
Also if you have CC, you should have Cinema4d Lite. You can easily create some extruded text with that…check out the tutorials, you can even use AE cameras with C4d project.

Duplicate your text and apply an invert effect to it and place it on top of the layer stack. Duplicate your shape, place it above the inverted text, change the track matte of the text to “alpha matte”.
You may want to precomp your text first, so that if you change the text, you only have to do it once, rather than twice for each layer.
