Animate text to fly off of an object
I am trying to take footage of an object, such as a five dollar bill, and have the number 5 peel off of the object and fly or float forwards. The number five doesn’t have to disappear from the five dollar bill. How would I go about doing this in after effects?

First I would use a very large image—that way when your 5 moves towards the camera it doesn’t pixelate. In the comp, duplicate your 5 dollar bill and mask the “5” that you want to float away. I would probably enable 3D space and just animate the position & rotation. Also you might want to consider using some kind of distortion like bezier warp to make it peel off the bill, doesn’t need to be much.

Thank you for your help. I was able to get what looked like the shape of the 5 to fly up but there is no fill to the mask. What could I have done wrong?

Use the 3rd to last icon above to post a screen grab of your “5” layer, with masks & effects and anything keyframed twirled opened. After you upload the screen grab, click on it and copy the embed code into your post.

Here are two images of my project. I created a mask of the number 1 on the dollar bill by using the pen tool. Then I was able to animate the mask to fly up. However, the mask has no fill so when the red dots go away its invisible. I want to make it look like the number 1 is flying up.

I actually just figured it out. I used the parallax effect. So I separated the photos into layers and made the numbers their own layer, brought them into after effects, created a camera layer, turned each photo layer into 3d and then animated the numbers. Thanks anyways for your help!
