Essentially what you do is track one object in your scene until it goes offscreen. Then start tracking another object. Then a third and so on if need be. This tutorial explains doing it all on one layer(I separate the data to multiple nulls just to be safe, but either method works).

Open up the rotation parameter of your object and of the white solid. Alt + click the rotation stopwatch of the object to open the expression editor. Use the pick whip to parent to the ‘white solid’ rotation. Add a minus sign to the front of the expression then press “Enter” on number keypad to close expression.

You should end up with this expression(except with the name of the solid you pick whipped). -thisComp.layer("White Solid 1").transform.rotation

Do your first track, say the tree and track that for as long as it’s in the scene, apply data to null. Then find another point to track, apply that data to a 2nd null, then parent the 2nd null to the first. You can daisy chain as many nulls as you need this way.

First thing, he does this frame by frame, so you need to freeze frame every single instance of the light.

For achieving the light paint he just keys it. Number of different methods could be used to key. First probably a quick mask around the freeze frame of the light. Then for pure bright white lightes, the effect Key > Luma Matte. He sets that to “key out darker” then sets the threshold to a high number like 250. After that I think he adds a glow effect.

Where he had the light bulb on the posts, that’s achieved by adjusting the opacity and just adding a color effect to it.

You might also want to add some flicker, if it’s from an old film projector, by adding a wiggle expression to the opacity.

Post on the main AE forum, it’s a little more trafficked and there are some people who know the nitty gritty of codecs better. Also, include, AE version, computer info, software OS and codec information.

Try using the Color Correction “Tint” or “Tritone”(both mid and highlights set to nearly the same color). Then keyframe the “Blend with Original” or “Amount to Tint”.
