    Dan,

Coming from HDV, which is an acquisition format, you should be fine with DNxHD 145, which is Avid’s mastering codec. You won’t see much if any loss, and the resulting file takes up much less bandwidth.

Since you have multiple applications for your finished product, stick with video instead of RGB, and, yes, it is Upper Field first.

I have found the BCC filters to be very powerful for what you are correcting. While the Topaz filters are terrific, you seem to be getting what you need with BCC.

You should be able to get the most out of your images using the Avid Color Correction first and then applying BCC as needed. Avid’s CC allows you to work with the blue channel independently, if that’s what you need to wrangle. I often use a slight “S” curve on the Master Channel in the Curves window to add a little punch to low-light, grainy or night shots.

    Jody,

Check and see if you have BCC or Boris RED in your effects. If you do, there are plenty of presets that you can customize to taste.

    Jon,

If the media shows up under the folder in Windows Explorer, it should show up under Media Tool once you have purged the old databases and Avid rebuilds them…if that doesn’t work, rename your Avid MediaFiles folder something like xAvid MediaFiles. Relaunch Avid, and the program should build a new Avid MediaFiles folder. With this done, then drag the MXF files from the old “1” folder to the new “1” folder. If this works, you can then delete the old (corrupted?) xAvid Mediafiles folder.

I’ve got all fingers and toes crossed for ya.

    Jon,

Can you delete the databases in the “1” folder and see if Avid can rebuild them? It’s worth a shot…

    Nick,

To change the color of your bin background open the bin that you wish to change – if already open, click on the bin window once.
In the Edit menu at the top of the screen, scroll down to “Set Bin Background” and select the color you wish to use.

Note: This color will be the default background color. If “Bin Default Background” is deselected under your chosen interface setting, the bin background will be white.

OK, I know this is elementary, and I know you’re the kind of guy who checks all the bases…but, have you replaced the 1394 cable? Have you tried capturing to the Avid with the Adrenaline box turned off? I would recommend deleting the deck configurations and reassigning them using the “Add Channel” and “Autoconfigure” to see if the computer is in fact seeing the deck/camera. If this doesn’t work, I would try uninstalling the deck/camera at the Windows device manager level, and let the computer “find” it again.

All this to try and weed out what may be an Adrenaline box issue. You don’t want to have to replace the box if it’s not the problem!

    Stan,

I haven’t done that exact transcode, but it likely is because of the frame rates.

Avid just dropped a new update you can download that works with multiple framerates on the same timeline.

Other than that, I would suggest going this route: https://www.24p.com/conversion.htm

    Joe,

Do you know if/how the timecode generator was being fed genlock? If the tc generator was running separately from the cameras/decks doing the recording, there will be hiccups as you have described. Usually more often and before the length of 1+ hours, however.

Is the drive you are recording to FAT or NTFS?

    Mark,

Are you using the 1394 system bus or an add-in 1394 card for capturing? If you have a separate card, try rebooting and switching inputs to this card for capture. You can even try unplugging the Adrenaline box to see if that works.

Is your Avid connected to the internet or other network via the ethernet cable? Try unplugging it and see if your interrupts go away.

Other than that, make sure that you have “capture over timecode breaks” ON, in case your timecode is bilious for any reason.

    Yes, it’s very solid.

It’s hard seeing people with the framerate problems and not being able to tell them what’s around the bend. 🙂 It should be very helpful in solving some of these problems. Worth the cost of the upgrade alone.

I’m hoping for Avid’s continued support and development for all the AVC codecs, etc. that are out there.
