I have a customer with a Z400 with 3.5.4.3 and has seen this twice. Avid stops recording at a length of exactly 01:10:04:06. He has set maximum record time to 240 minutes. He is recording to MXF DV 50. This is on a Unity 4.1.6.

The Unity is a little old, and only has two workspaces. A small one for projects and a larger one for media. It’s a 4TB Unity, so they only have about 2TB usable after mirroring. The large media workspace takes up most of the space. They were previously able to record well over an hour of media easily with their old Adrenaline and 3 Airspeeds. Now, with just the Nitris DX Z400 attached, they are unable to get past this specific length of time. They can pick right back up and continue recording, however there is obviously a break in program. There is not enough room to create another workspace to test record.

    Thoughts?

Is this the same tape? Could there be a TC break there?

This is baseband video off a switcher, there is no time code break, it is being generated by a timecode generator and 3 other desitinations(AJ-HMP110s) record flawlessly without a break in time code.

    Thanks for the response.

Is there any error message or does it just stop?

Just stops. They can pick right back up and keep recording fine. There is space for over 7 hours of recording so I don’t think they are running out.

    Thanks.

    Joe,

Do you know if/how the timecode generator was being fed genlock? If the tc generator was running separately from the cameras/decks doing the recording, there will be hiccups as you have described. Usually more often and before the length of 1+ hours, however.

Is the drive you are recording to FAT or NTFS?

The drives are Unity drives, so whatever mystical format they use.

The timecode generator is getting reference from a Tektronik SPG422.

I just want to reiterate that they have seen this problem to the frame twice. It stopped recording at the exact length both times. 01:10:04:06. It’s not stopping at a point in time, but a length.

    Thanks.

    Check Settings>Capture>MXF Media Files

There is a ‘Maximum (default) capture time’ setting. It’s unusual to have …04:06, but I’ve seen stranger things.

    This is SOOO easy!
I bet you are recording DF.
If NTSC DF, 01:10:04:06 is 126000 frames.
This is a too round number, it has to have a meaning in the code somewhere.

    But what?

    Add all the digits (1 + 2 + 6 + 0 + 0 + 0) and you end up with 9
See the top of this page to know what that means:
    https://www.falasha-recordings.com/points%20of%20interest/numbers/Mystical%20numbers.html

Now the three zeros at the end tell you to do that 3 times,
so you end up with 999

Now of course from hell(heaven is above, hell is below, you look UP to that number, with your head way back in your neck, you read it upside down, so it sez 666

I say, sick programmer joke. Try altering the max capture time.
(Or log the clip first and then capture)
