Probably not on the 14th, but maybe before the end of the year. I’d love to see a head-to-head comparison of speed, etc. with the new MacBook Pros.

I agree that the choice should be based on the laptop and platform on which you feel most comfortable working. At the end of the day, they are just tools, and the one you are most productive on is likely the best choice.
It would be good to note that TB on PC laptops is coming. Here is a laptop workstation I am interested in trying:

If cost is really an issue for you, does your system have Avid FX (Boris RED)? You will need to factor in the render time, but all in all it’s not that bad. You get very nice moves on stills with Avid FX.

Great to do a 15-second test…can’t tell you how many times people try to work with a two hour clip without knowing if the settings will work…
First, I would try the SD resolution you mentioned. Next, do you have Sorenson that shipped with Avid? You should try letting Sorenson make the MPEG-2 and see if Avid DVD can work with that.
