    David,

What file type are you trying to import (add)? If it has already been encoded, do you know what program and codec was used? Can you import (add) a QT reference file, .mov or other non-encoded file for Avid DVD to work with?

    Ben,

When you encode in Sorenson, what codec are you using? Do you know if the codec is set for RGB or 601/709? This can affect the look of your output.

Have you played back your file after encoding but before authoring? Is there a chance that Encore is encoding a second time?

    Ben,

What are you using for encoding? I use Sorenson Squeeze and get a good looking file for DVD authoring.

    Daniel,

For me, Avid FX (otherwise known as Boris RED) always works for me. That’s still where I do my pan and scan on high-rez photos, and blowing up video (conservatively, mind you) doesn’t look too bad either. I hope you don’t need to go beyond 125-130% to get the move you’re looking for.

    Maya,

You have so much footage and work already done! Therefore, I would not trust anything less than Automatic Duck. It is accurate, quick and a great value…your editor will be able to pick up and continue the edit!

    Steve,
Contact me over at cre8tive at GEEMALE dawt com if you are still looking for a good reference monitor. I have a PWM-20L2 that is in pristine condition. I will let it go to auction if you’re not interested.

You can map the fill screen preview to almost any key or key combination you want. Open keyboard settings and also open command palette. I’ve got my FSK mapped to the escape key so that it stands out…I use it for a quick reference to the output and then back to the edit.

  • Carol,

I have found all the 3rd party conversions degrade your footage unacceptably. Your older MC did not support different frame rates on the same timeline. Do you have access to another machine that will support Avid? If so, install MC 5.03 for a 30 day free trial. Bring in all the 720 footage in a 1080/59.94 timeline. Transcode if you need to. Then take your Avid MediaFiles (.MXFs) to your computer with the older MC. Rebuild the databases for the folder(s) you put them in, and you should be good to go.

A roundabout way, but you’re in that grey area of old product/new product. Hopefully you can upgrade your older MC to MC 5 once your project is complete. The new features and time savings alone will be worth the price of the upgrade.
