I’m working in Avid Media Composer 3.0. Our projects here are shot and edited in 1080/59.94. I’ve received some footage from a client that needs to be added to an existing project that we have. His footage is 720/23.976. When importing his footage I get a clip frame rate error. I know these 2 frame rates don’t like to live with each other in the same project/timeline.

Is there any way to convert the 720/23.976 footage to 1080/59.94? I’ve looked at the various options in Avid and haven’t had any luck.

Many thanks for any help I can get!

    Carol,

I have found all the 3rd party conversions degrade your footage unacceptably. Your older MC did not support different frame rates on the same timeline. Do you have access to another machine that will support Avid? If so, install MC 5.03 for a 30 day free trial. Bring in all the 720 footage in a 1080/59.94 timeline. Transcode if you need to. Then take your Avid MediaFiles (.MXFs) to your computer with the older MC. Rebuild the databases for the folder(s) you put them in, and you should be good to go.

A roundabout way, but you’re in that grey area of old product/new product. Hopefully you can upgrade your older MC to MC 5 once your project is complete. The new features and time savings alone will be worth the price of the upgrade.
