  • Will MC 6 run efficiently on my HPZ800 Workstation?

Posted by Frank Bokoski, jr. on November 3, 2011 at 9:50 pm

We’re still running MC vers. 4 on my HPZ800.

    Here are the system specs:

Windows Vista service pack 1, 64 bit OS
    2 Xeon x5550 2.67GHz processors
    6 GB Ram
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 3800
Currently using external CalDigit VR and a G-Tech GRAID drives connected via esata.
For HD projects we don’t have any extenal hardware support at this time. For SD projects we still run with the MOJO.

We work mostly in Panasonic AVCHD, AVC-Intra 100 and DVCPro-HD codecs. For SD projects we are mostly just DV but the SD projects are soon to be a thing of the past.

So, can our system run MC 6 (or even MC 5.5) efficiently? Or is it best to wait til we can afford a new workstation before upgrading to MC 6?

I don’t think any of the Mojo or Adrenaline hardware will work with 6.

Regarding whether 5.5 or 6 will run – download the trial and try it. That’s really the easiest way. I’d definitely get more RAM though. Go to 16 – 24GB if you can, especially if you move to MC6 (it’s 64-bit, so it can use all that RAM).

    Frank,

According to Marianna, it looks like you’re going to need to upgrade the OS to Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-bit).
