    OK, first off, this is TOTALLY my fault… I’ve been having trouble with one of my striped drives. I ran Windows disk checker, and realizing it would take longer than I thought (I had a client coming in), I stopped it. Using the task manager. Yeah, I know.

    The drive properties still show it full, but Avid created a ‘2’ folder in the MXF folder. The ‘1’ folder showed up as an ‘unknown’ icon, 0 kb. As a quick fix, I screwed myself further. I deleted the ‘1’ folder and renamed the 2 folder 1. (I had to redigitize, and it errored when it couldn’t find the a proper 1 folder.

    I can redigitize, but if I can’t get this media back, I’ll need to wipe the entire drive to reclaim the space. Any ideas on how to extracate my dumb carcass from this mess?

    Jon,

    Can you delete the databases in the “1” folder and see if Avid can rebuild them? It’s worth a shot…

    I’ll try that, but I’m afraid I’ve screwed myself. Nothing shows up in the media tool… Well, lesson learned…

    Jon,

    If the media shows up under the folder in Windows Explorer, it should show up under Media Tool once you have purged the old databases and Avid rebuilds them…if that doesn’t work, rename your Avid MediaFiles folder something like xAvid MediaFiles. Relaunch Avid, and the program should build a new Avid MediaFiles folder. With this done, then drag the MXF files from the old “1” folder to the new “1” folder. If this works, you can then delete the old (corrupted?) xAvid Mediafiles folder.

    I’ve got all fingers and toes crossed for ya.

    So your drive flipped out and the 1 folder showed 0Kb, but the drive was showing there was still a lot of stuff on it…and you deleted the 1 folder? Ouch. Is it still in the OS trash bin? If so, I’d restore it and run a drive check again to see if you can recover it. Otherwise, you may have to copy any media your system still sees to another drive and wipe this one. But if the drive is part of a RAID, replace it. It sounds like it’s got problems.

    You may need to create some media for the Avid to create the folder. Create a garbage title and save it to the drive you want to use. This will create the proper folder/file structure.

    But if you deleted the “1” folder and renamed the “2” folder “1” – all your media should be gone.

    If this is a Windows issue, I would recommend restarting the computer. Sometimes Windows will recognize the drive error and rebuild, allowing you to continue editing – unless you deleted the media. Then redig.

    As somewhat of a resolution to this thread, this is what happened…

    Renaming folders didn’t work – I stupidly shift + deleted the unrecognized folder.

    I right clicked the desktop, selected propertites, and went to ‘clean up’. The media showed up in several folders. I was able to get some of the media back into the Avid folder, some wouldn’t go. Bottom line is I had to redigitize a lot of stuff, but not as much as I feared.

    I did learn this: NEVER, EVER stop a disc check. Even if you have a client coming over before it will finish. Because that client, like mine, will cancel and reschedule…
