It is certainly an option. But what is the advantage you are looking for with FCP? What is MCA not providing that you need?

Do you have Boris FX, also known as Avid FX, on your system? You can preview hundreds of transitions and effects in the library viewer. Just put a Boris transition effect on your clip, go into Boris and then pull up the library of transitions. You’ll see how the transition will look with the clip you have in mind.

Yes, you do have the quality button on the timeline with or without the Mojo.
It’s a terrific piece of software. What kind of feedback are you looking for?

The slickest way possible to bring Avid OMF files into FCP is through Automatic Duck.

You can bring your EDL into FCP yourself, and you may or may not have problems with the edit.

I use a LitePanels LED in the same way Dean is using the VidLED. A bit heavy with the battery attached, but dimmable and comes with a ton of gels to match almost any light source. I prefer the flood to the spot for use as a camera light.

Mike is right, it likely doesn’t have anything to do with HD vs. SD. IF your footage is at the same frame rate.
Avid’s Open Timeline approach will allow you to mix SD and HD footage interchangeably all day if the frame rate is identical.

You haven’t told us which Sony DV deck you are using. Avid is compatible with a lot of them…see your pull-down list of decks. If yours is not listed, try “generic dv device.”
If that still doesn’t work, try crash recording your sequence and confirm that it in fact records the video.
