    Kennon,

It’s always a good idea to delete the databases…something is wierd in relation to the Offline indications you are getting. You may need to delete the user settings and create a new one as well. This will at least clear some of the cobwebs that might be causing the problems.

I don’t remember if this version was stable or if there were cheap/easy/free updates for it. Maybe someone else can chime in on this version.

I would try to work without the camera attached as much as possible, and then attach just for I/O. Is there a deck template for that camera? If not, try a generic DV one to see if it helps. It likely will remove any deck control, but you can crash record once you’re finished. Are there local drives on the same FW bus? This always causes problems. Let us know…

    Andy,

I know folks who are having a lot of success recording to the Grass Valley Turbo drives. Is there a reason you did not mention these?

It’s all about experimentation with the codecs and the bitrate, among other things. It’s really more of an art than a science. Some video may look gorgeous on one setting and another video may look crappy encoded at the exact same setting.

FWIW, I like the H.264 codec. I’ve had a lot of success with them. Some folks are producing great clips with Flash for video.

  • Josh,

Delete your .mdb and .pbr files from the OMFI folder. This will allow Avid to rebuild the database. Your files should then appear.

    Simon,

Read the Fine Manual. From page 33:

Step 1: Power on the camera.
Step 2: Set the TAPE/P2 switch to P2.
Step 3: Press the MENU button on the top of the AG-HVX200
camera. Select the RECORDING SETUP option.
Set the REC FORMAT P2 to the desired DVCPRO format and resolution. (PN modes are not supported).
Step 4: Under the OTHER FUNCTIONS menu, set the 1394 CONTROL to BOTH.
Step 5: Press REC trigger button on the top or side (Step 1) of the camera.

Select EXT TC in the Setup menu. This option records the video camera timecode in the file. There are other timecode options available, refer to TIME CODE on page 57.

But, yet, Avid Liquid will do surround sound.

I, for one, would love to have this option in Xpress Pro and Media Composer products.

How about others? Would this be a good feature to have for your productions? Would you pay extra for it? Or would you never use this feature?

Ditto on the Hullfish books. They are the ones I always recommend first.

Where are you located? I know a couple of trainers in TX who are terrific.

    Mark,

Did you shoot in the 24pA mode? Here is a list of the formats and project types Avid supports:

    Jack,

This is one of my all-time favorites, written by Avid editor Steve Hullfish:

The other Avid books Steve has written are great, too.
