I’m with Mark on this one…can’t imagine going back to a mouse. Even when I am editing on the road with my laptop, I still bring along a Wacom tablet.

I agree with Bill. Call DJ. Juicer 3 works fine for me.

What are you using to record the action? Camtasia is what most folks use with great success. There are setting adjustments in the program so you can match the settings for your Avid project.

There are also a ton of effects like this one available via Digital Juice. If you look on their web site, you will find deals a-plenty that will allow you to inexpensively lay in an effect or transition to allow you to concentrate on storytelling.

I’m sure there are ways to go about making this yourself, but for me, I don’t have the time. I would rather purchase a library of effects like the ones with Boris, Juice and Sapphire and keep cranking out the content.

Also, delete your database files on the drive you have copied the files into. Let Avid rebuild the databases and edit away!

You can do it, they will transfer over. Avid always suggests that you don’t do it however. Especially if the system you are establishing is a newer version of AXP, MCA, etc.

There should be some great responses here from MichaelP at Avid, and others. You may want to check out the worthy P2 and Varicam forums on the Cow.

    Sure, dude.

It’s the up(Step Out) and down(Step In) arrows at the bottom left of your timeline. It’s for if you already have multiple or nested effects.

Add another effect by holding down Alt and dragging a second effect onto the shot with the first effect.

Where is the media located? On an external FW drive? If so, just copy the project onto a jump drive and copy it to your Mac (I’m assuming you have Xpress Pro). The Mac version of Avid should read the project and the media, and you should be able to continue editing, digital cut, etc. on your machine.

  • No, not necessarily.

I use Adobe ATM for true PostScript fonts on my PC machines. PostScript fonts are more expensive but are designed better in terms of properties for kerning, leading, etc.

You may or may not see the advantage in video applications. However, the code is more bullet-proof that dissuades situations like you describe.
