Use easy set up for DVCpro50 Pal. Make sure your footage and sequence codecs match. We use DVCpro50 ntsc all the time with no issues.

I’d crop the images down to 480 in photoshop. I try to avoid letting FCP do any resizing to GFX.

  • Hit just the “F” key to put the match frame into the viewer then drag the clip from the viewer to the browser in your new project. Not totally elegant but do-able.

The file is still 720x 480 but streched to give you 16×9. Try exporting 854×480 to give your file the true 16×9 asspect ratio. If you’re real picky 768×480 will correct for square vs rectangular pixels.

Go to your Audio/video settings> device control tab. Duplicate the 422 control. In the new control change the machine protocol from sony to panasonic. Rename the control with panasonic in the name so you can find it again. See if that clears up your issues.

DV50 is our work horse here. We send it out to broadcasters all the time with no issues.

We have used a company (guy in his basement) out of Kansas City called “Wombat” for medical animations. Not specificically dental. Good work at reasonable prices. I’ll send you more info if your interested.

Or “Open image sequence” in QT pro and export as needed. I find that way easier.

We have the same issue with an AJ-SD930. We can digitize all day with IO or Decklink but cannot insert or assemble to the thing. Even though this deck can record, it can’t edit. Always read Panasonic literature very carefully. A workaround is to have a faithfull assistant at the deck to punch record after the preroll starts. Not pretty– but it works.
