  • Help with Io and FCP 5!!

This is a cross post, I know, but I’m desparate.

We just got our FCP Studio system in. Everything is working, except the Log and Capture. I’ve got an AJA Io hooked up to either a DVCPro deck or a Panasonic MII deck (We’ve tried both.) It doesn’t matter what capture settings I’ve selected (I’ve tried both 8 and 10 bit uncompressed as well as DV and DVCPro.) When I open up the Log and Capture, it talks to the Io through FireWire (I see the lights blinking), then it gives me an error saying something like “An error has occured while configuring QuickTime using the current capture presets.” It tells me to check the hardware which I did and that looks fine from what I can tell.

I tried trashing prefs for FCP and QuickTime and that didn’t work. I’m also going to try and get a hold of a DV camera that I can plug in straight to the computer. I’ll post the results.

My boss wants this working as it’s been two days since the stuff came in and I’d rather not pay $200 for support. (Apple’s 90 day complimentary support only covers install problems 🙁 )

    Any help would be appreciated.

    System Specs:
    2.7GHz Dual PowerMac G5
    8GB RAM
    XServe RAID 700GB
    AJA Io
    Mac OSX 10.4.2
    FCP Studio
    Photoshop CS 2

    Thanks!

after reading your post the first thing comes to mind is do you have the latest 2.0 drivers installed? and i just received a io with old firmware so i would also insure that you are using the latest firmware. you can do this by downloading their control panel and runing it. then select “update firmware” if it is out of date. If that don’t fix the problem make sure you are using the latest version of tiger and quicktime. go to software updates from the apple taskbar icon. and if that don’t work re-install Final cut studio.

Go to your Audio/video settings> device control tab. Duplicate the 422 control. In the new control change the machine protocol from sony to panasonic. Rename the control with panasonic in the name so you can find it again. See if that clears up your issues.
