You can use XML export to go backwards. Works fine to redig or relink.

Not sure if targas support layers but FCP only understands PSD layered files. Try PNGs or tiffs with layers turned off.

Back in the bad old days you could not transition from the same tape reel. You had to broll any concurrent shots from the same reel. Use the preread or geneic setting unless you’re onlining with 1980s equipment.

So you have DF footage on a NDF timeline? Just switch the time line to DF. Actually it shouldn’t matter as long as you let the editor know what you doing so he can have the properly coded master tape. (I’m assuming traditional linear online)

Have you actually captured something and checked the file? The audio meters do not register during capture even though you are capturing audio.

While you’re checking the obvious, I think the analog inputs are on the back of the unit. The outputs are on the front. (or is it the other way?) Double check your connections. I also sometimes have to restart my whole system to recognize the box.

DVC50 is a nice codec, but if storage is not an issue uncompressed is better. For us storage is always an issue so we usually work in DVC50. We do event support(large projection), corporate and some broadcast spots. Never had any technical complaints.

Usually the content or the producer give me a headache before the interface does.

We used Excel. Measured the bays and set the cell size to that dimension. Took a few tries but it worked.

DVCAM is DV. Don’t judge the quality from the capture screen. Look at the video out on a monitor to access quality.
