OK, thanks for the suggestions. I think the clip must be corrupted somehow. I’m on 10.4.4 and FCP 5.1, so it’s not a version problem. I can import other P2 clips just fine. I left the camera on a balcony to record sunset/sunrise over the ocean, and the camera was plugged into AC power, but somehow the next morning it had turned itself off, and this probably didn’t allow the clip to be finalized. Not sure why it turned itself off…even if it was the standby feature, the camera was recording for hours. There was also plenty of room left on the P2 card. Oh well. I’ll try again.

My settings were Video mode, 720 30p, with the interval set at 2 seconds. I could see the camera recording a frame every 2 seconds, but I can’t play the resulting clip off the P2 card or import it with FCP. And of course on my Powerbook I can’t open the MXF files directly. Any ideas?

I agree. The HVX can do both, so if you have it, no sense in letting the tape drive go to waste. I’m shooting some stuff right now in both DV-24p480i SD and 720p24pn HD, and will make a comparison in a week or so when I get back to the studio.

How is it that the HVX shooting DV tape is better than the DVX? DVX is more light sensitive, right? Just curious, can you quantify what’s better when using the HVX?

Apple has OS X 10.4.6 downloads on their support site for the Intel machines…I guess that’s what they’re running on…

I agree, DG and Mainconcept are both lacking in the support dept. If you already have the full version of Mainconcept, you might want to try using FastChannel instead of DG Systems. I was up and running with them in three days, and on the fourth day sent various combinations of 8 spots to 35 stations. Only thing about MainConcept, if you’re using it on the Mac, the encoded files may be darker than your original. Mainconcept support has verified this as a bug in the current version that will be fixed in the next version.

If you’re using Cleaner, I can send you a Cleaner settings file that was sent to me; it works great. I did make some adjustments for gamma and contrast, and FastChannel techs tell me that my spots are dead on and need no adjustments. It depends what delivery service you’re using; this method may not work with DG Systems, but it works with FastChannel. DG is buying/merging with FastChannel though, and I can only hope that this workflow will continue to be viable after the merger.
Send me an email through my website (editatjoes dot com) and I’ll be glad to pass on the settings file for Cleaner. It will be Monday before I get back to that computer.
Also, I haven’t delivered any HD streams yet.

Is this what’s taking 19 minutes for you with 4 Gigs?

It sounds like it will be an option across the line of P2 products. That would be very cool. Too bad it’s a year away.
