Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. It is interesting to note that you can work with a product for many years and still come across applications you have not learned yet.

Thanks Mike I just downloaded it and did some research on the different formats. PNG was really a replacement for GIFS with the ability for ALPHA channel transparency. (Never knew) I think I’ll touch base with SONY to find out why there would be a preferred format for pics. The only downside that I have come across with PNG files is their size. I have been doing a few projects of late and realized that VEGAS can certainly render any JPEG file it just does not like it in the preview at all. You would think that a 1 meg file would not be a factor. Anyway thanks again.

I found a few programs that offer this feature, can you tell me what is the preferred software? Thanks again.

  • Go to the basics first.

1.Can you render a small portion?
2.Does it crash the program or lockup and just stop rendering? Can you render other projects with no problem?
3.At what point does it crash during the render process?
4.Is is always at the same point or does it vary?
5.Check your CPU temps in the bios and download any free CPU monitor program and check your temps live.
their are many free ones out there.
6.If you can get it to render small clips keep extending the range until it crashes again. Then render smaller portions and once done with it all place them back on the time line and render again.
7.Check your Task Manager and see what is using resources. Also with the project open check to see what the paging file size is.
    8.Delete all unused project media

If it is crashes with an exception error then it is trying to write to a protected area of memory. Pass that message along. You can check the “event log” in windows to see what was happening at the time. Hope something in here helps.

Why not try the color corrector or just make it black and white? I don’t see a way of undoing the night vision affect as it is using an unseen infrared light spectrum. The green you are talking about is an optical system where the instrument amplifies the surrounding light using light Interference Filters. I doubt the camera they used has that. That is what is found in night vision binoculars. Maybe someone has another suggestion.

Maybe someone else has been successful with this and can direct you further. Sorry I could not be more help.

The WAX plugins that I have that worked in Vegas 5 do not in 8. It sees them but it locks up the program anytime I try to select them. I can’t say for sure if that will happen in your situation.

It’s time for an upgrade, you’re running at the minimums. That being said are you running any background programs? Is there a virus or spyware on your system? Open your task manager and see what applications are using so much resources. Just with Vegas open you should not be using CPU power unless you are previewing or rendering. Overheating your laptop will destroy the CPU in short order. So check the basics first.
    Hope this helps.

When your media is placed in the time line and viewed through the Preview window you will not get the same quality as if you view after rendering it or in a video player. You can increase the quality of the preview of course but you might get a jittery output. All your media must be rendered after you are done editing and then viewed with whichever player you are using.

It is a sad but true that the users are the beta testers for software and hardware. We have allowed it and I don’t see it changing anytime soon. So it is up to us to figure out the work arounds amongst ourselves in the hopes that the issues will be fixed in the next latest and greatest update. The more solutions that we find the better it is for all of us. Depending on how we use the application we may never encounter a single problem, others are not so fortunate. Sorry there is not much solace in that but it is the reality. I am very thankful that people in this forum take time to help anyone at any level.
