For your second question,I think you duplicate the layer and add a mask for the upper layer.recomp it in to a new comp, then add the effect to it.now your effect seems to work only in one area.

Great! It’s the best way of making square end to the stroke I have even seen.I had thought of some other ways before reading you post. But yours is the simplest way I can find.Thanks.

  • At first ,I had the same idea with Ghekkomanic. And while I was trying it in AE,Dan Ebberts pointed out an other way.I think it must be the best way to create such effect. However if you do not think so,Ghekkomanic’s idea can work too. This way is easier especially when you were trying to make a simple animation of the dots. Here is the project file I had just made:

I can’t catch your meaning by “one part of the map” very well. But maybe you can try this:
    >open the effect window
    >check your shining effect
    >open the “pre-process” option
    >clikc the “use mask”
    >adjust the source point & mask radius

There is a tutorial about this kind of effects in CreativeCow.You can check it and will possibly find some ideas. In fact,I made a footage like this, but I did not zoom to so big.As my experience I think you have got the main idea of such effect. The only tip I want to notice you is that some thinging such as clouds can bu used to help you conceal some details which looks not very good.Wish to be helpful.

Because you didn’t describe how close up your shot was.I can only give some cursory advices.
1:add more paint effects four your shot. It’s very hard to remove objects with only one paint effect.
2:add key frames for the paint shape at the frames where the movements of the objects change greatly.
3:add more and more key frames and adjust until you are satisfacted. However,Your shot have only more than 100 frames.Sometimes the most boring way is the simplest way as well.:)
4:Maybe you should try to find out some other ways to desolve your problem. How about appealing to some 3D soft?Maybe you can make an eyeball by some certain 3D soft and fuse it with your shot.

    Wish to be helpful.
