sorry, I misunderstanded “backlighting” as “blacklighting”.For this problem, I agree with Y.D. In my opinion, the key point of this effect is to get the out lines of the Alpha channel. So “glow”,”vegas”might be helpful too.

I think there is another way to do that.
create two light layers for your scene. one is an ambient light, the other is the “dark light” whose type can be “parallet”,”spot”, or “point”.Set the intensity of the ambient light to “100” or any number biger than 0.Set the intensity of the other light (for example, a spot light) to a number smaller than 0.(for example “-100”),than U will be able to see the dark light.BTW remember the convert your layers to 3D layers.

I think if you can also try the plugin:Digital anarchy 3D assistants. A free version is contained in your AE6.5 CD-rom.the “box creator lite” can help you too make a plan, the “cubic distribution light” can help you set random positions.

no knowing where is this folder, but have you tried this trick?
    >Run you AE.(don’t open your AEP file)
    >push “caps lock” in you keyboard
    >open the file
    >delete the filter which U think cause the trouble
    >push “caps lock” again, if nothing happened, congratulations!
This trick can some time solve such problems. wish to be helpful.

Here is a Chinese tutorial about this effects, I have translate the main idea for you:
1.create the image with Z-channel.(such as .rpf)

2.import it into AE, and apply the effect “3D channel extract” to it

3.set the black point and the white point value, and recomp it

4.put the image on to your time line, add “compoud blur” for the picture’s layer. (now you have two layers)set the filter like this:

There might be some other ways of making it. wish to be helpful.

    here might be the problem:

    “i used millions of color+
    RGB+Alpha
    Straight (unmatted)”

    Straight (unmatted)???????
I think it should be “Premultiplied(Matted)”:)

U might have some layers which have not an alphe channel.Check the alphe channel of you comp in AE, and you might found it. Pay attention to these layers. For example, a solid layer with some light effects(such as “lans flare”) on it ,and the transmode is “add” or “screen” or sth like that. these layers look like pictures with alphe channel, but in fact they don’t.
