One way to do square end to the stroke
Make a text layer using Webdings-font or any font with a square character and tType (in this case gg) to get squares. Then make a open path with mask-tool. Path can as curve as you like.
Apply a “Stroke” effect to this layer and make it as you like. “Brush hardness” should be 100% ’cause characters are sharp-edgy. Leave “Path style” to “On original image”.
On text layers “Path option” choose your mask and turn “Force alignment” ON. Now you have your squares on the ends of your stroked path, but they aren’t quite right. Adjust “Font size” and “Baseline shift” on Character palette so that squares are in the middle of path line and same size as your stroke is. Adjust Text layers “Path options” “First- and Last Margin” parameters to align squares to correct positions on the path (paths ending points to be in the middle of squares).
Now you should have square ending strokepath and square ends are in right angle with paths tangents even when you animate path and with only one layer. Problems come if you have a curve very near paths ends, depending on your font.
‘Cause you are using fonts, you can replace ends with a arrow character of what ever you like. Font size, Baseline shift and Margins needs to adjusted but…Hope this wasn’t a complete waste of your time.
