Faces should be exposed from 60%-80%. Use the Af-100 Zebras set to 85% and make sure no stripes appear on the face, then they should be fine.

For the dress, set the Zebras to 100% and make sure no stripes appear on the dress. This may under-expose the faces a bit, but they can be recovered in post with some color correction.

If you over-expose, its gone; if you under-expose you have a small margin to bring it back.

The auto-iris problem is probably due to the fact that you are using a still camera lens. They are designed to “step” through f-stops, whereas a TV or cinema lens is designed for smooth exposure adjustments. The difference requires a lot more precision engineering and of course more expense. Some people have adapted Fujinon TV lenses to the AF-100, but it’s not cheap, almost the same price of the camera or more. Check out af100central.com for more info.

If you are looking to squeeze the file sizes down a bit, Pro-Res LT is equivalent to Blu-Ray quality. I will lighten the load on your storage and FCP rendering times plus still come out looking good on DVD.

The HDMI system is set up so that the equipment communicates with each other. In that communication is the permissions code that tells the devices whether they can transfer, copy, or record signals. Unfortunately, unless you can get in between the devices talking to each other and change the permissions, hack it, they won’t let you record what they believe is protected content. That’s the HDMI gotcha!

I use both, the Panasonic AF-100 and FCP7, but I have not run across this error.

Keep in mind that FCP7 and below are now “unsupported products” by their maker. We are bound to run into more errors as we try to ingest newer technologies into them.

We organize by Reel Numbers too for each card shot.
So far it has worked very well with no confusion of files.

Check in the Motion tab in the viewer to see if it is Scaling the image up or down in size.
