With the specs you have been given, I would not go for an AMA File export, but do a ‘regular’ File->Export, choose Op1A MXF there, and you will get a standard XDCAM Op1A MXF export.

I’m pretty sure that the format will always provide 8 separate tracks, and it is up to the playback side to assign channels and panning.

That is a very common workflow. Usually, this means sound editorial will do a conform. Pro Tools has an ‘expand tracks’ option which can do a multichannel conform from single channel cuts in a timeline (you hand them your cut as AAF plus media, they ingest ALL original BWF files with all tracks, they can make PT link any event to all matching tracks).

Alternatively, some sound editors prefer to use external applications like Virtual Katy, Conformalizer or EdiLoad. In that case, you may need to hand them over a sound EDL on top of your ‘normal’ export.

That’s not so much a question of an Avid spec, but a monitoring spec. So did you color grade using a monitor calibrated to a 2.2 or a 2.4 gamma?
To the best of my knowledge, it is all a bit of a grey area, where fully controlled high end grading rooms tend to be set up with a 2.4 gamma, whereas 2.2 makes more sense in less ideal circumstances.

Right-click them and choose Rec709 Full Range as Display mode.

Have you specified SoundRoll as well? I don’t think you can get Sound TC without SoundRoll.

If you are really, really careful, you can handle things manually. But sh*t is bound to occur. Much safer to clone/sync mediafiles folders between systems (but requires well-organized manual updating).

If you need shared storage, you need shared storage. It’s not as simple as you would hope.

May 9, 2017 at 5:22 pm in reply to: Multi-track Quicktime from Avid

    Does the following not work?

    Create a sequence that has
    stereo L on A1
    stereo R on A2
    Sync L on A3
    Sync R on A4
    Mus L on A5
    Mus R on A6
    VO L on A7
    VO R on A8

Export Same as Source, with Direct Out selected in the audio tab.
Open the result in QT Player Pro.
    Choose Window->Show Movie Properties
    Select the Soundtrack.
See you have 8 channels of audio listed in the right side window. They will likely all be routed “mono”. Click on that and set each track as Left or Right.
    Save the QT.

Are we talking 24.000p or 23.976p. Makes a difference.

May 2, 2017 at 9:45 pm in reply to: corrupt .mdb (database) file

Whole bunch of spam from database recovery tool fans, I guess, but that makes no sense at all. A corrupt media database is not a problem in MC. Simply trash the file (or move it to another location outside of the mediafiles folder), and MC _will_ rebuild the files. As long as no actual mediafiles themselves are corrupt, this rebuild has zero consequences, other than refreshing the database that tells MC where each file currently lives.
No-brainer. Don’t mess with repair tools on Avid media databases.
