Dustin, I have just solved this very problem with my computer. Premiere CS3 3.2.0 did exactly the same as yours: it quit right after loading solidcomposite.aex, window frame flashed on screen and then it crashed.

I followed the good advice of running PPro from another account. This works because it defaults all the OS settings – all the paths to My Documents and so on. The I tried to change path to My Documents (make it point to my little SAN) and Premiere crashed again. I then set it back to default and Premiere runs like charm.

So, make sure you don’t change any of these settings, like paths to critical system and user folders, or anything like that. It makes sense, the latest Avid for example is really picky about this, too.

I have problems with capturing JVC HDV on Mac version of MC3.0, but other than that, it runs flawless on my 20″ 2,16 GHz iMac (the exact one you specified. Capturing on the same iMac is OK on Bootcamp Windows partition.

Or, you can simply click Avid in the Dock (if you have it there, of course :). This will also bring all Avid windows to front.

Guys, any news on this?

I am contemplating moving on from Premiere Pro (which captures and edits all flavors of JVC HDV just fine) to either Avid or FCP, and I really see advantages of Avid. But no support for all JVC ProHD modes was a dealbreaker. I need mainly 720/25p to work flawlessly.

I don’t know about a new black iMacs, but I am happily editing on 20″ 2,16 GHz iMac with 3 gigs of RAM and ATI X1600 128 MB under Leopard. You should be fine.

Is there a way to move selected clips a certain number of frames with typed number?

for example, I would like to select a bunch of clips on timeline, type “-25” and they would shift 25 frames to the left. This way it works in Premiere and FCP and it`s really useful. The same would be for shifting forward, just with typing a number of frames. Or do I need to load a filler, set In and Out to 25 frames and then splice it in?

Yes, you are probably right, on my Apple keyboard, the “backspace” delete key is labeled just with a left-pointing arrow.

Delete key above Return (Enter) just deletes, the one above cursor keys ripples. At my computer, anyway.

This occured with FCP 5 and early versions of 6.

I have recently finished a HD project shot with JVC HD110 and FCP 6.0.4. Capture was flawless into ProRes, with or without scene detection.

But maybe I was just lucky. You can edit in Premiere (on both PC and Mac), it talks to JVC without any problems and it’s very similar to FCP (it was designed by the same person).
