From what it sounds like I guess the problem is the plugin IS NOT there, as opposed to it being there. What is the plugin that gives you problems?

Yes, there are, but they are kinda flaky. Just as you couldn’t insert/overwrite directly from Source window in original PPro CS3.0.0 (they fixed that in 3.1, I guess) you cannot target tracks from Source. You’ve gotta switch to Record or Timeline first. So, keyboard editing is definitely there more than ever, but it needs updates so it can become actually faster than mousing around. Oh well 🙂

Dave, I didn’t say there aren’t keyboard shortcuts for the new paradigm. I know I will get used to this (I can edit in Avid too), my gripe is though that any major company shouldn’t change basic functionality of their apps like this.

I would go for QT Photo-JPEG codec with quality set to 85-100. That will give you high quality files with small sizes that retain high quality even through multiple recompression (you know, moving between apps, rendering over and over again). PhotoJPEG cannot save alpha channel (transparency), but that is not needed for scanned film footage. There is also QT PNG which offers even higher quality, but it’s way too heavy on CPU.

This IS RTX2 bug (they even tried to call it a feature), it should be adressed in latest 3.6 release of their drivers (untick “Preroll/Postroll on stop playback” in Prefs).

The other thing is, Avid still leads the pack in terms of speed and latency, not only Premiere, but also FCP and other editors:

It’s likely that it’s not fault of the PC… RTX2 is inherently bugged and unstable even on Matrox-certified systems. I know, I have one (HP XW4400, every single piece in that PC is certified for RTX2 and NOT overclocked). Just look at their support forum, it’s riddled with bug reports and desperate users. It even doesn’t do things it advertises (encoding acceleration) – Matrox even changed their ads so it doesn’t misinform, but it did before. Too bad they won’t let you to this forum BEFORE you purchase and register their card. I have stopped using RTX2 and use clean CS3 and it’s much, much more stable.

Actually, I found a way to apply an effect to multiple clips in CS3, but it’s pretty well hidden:

Hi, anyone using Labels to speed up your workflow? They are nearly unknown (I haven’t seen this in Adobe Premiere Bible, nor any tutorial video I’ve ever seen), but they can be very effective.

For example: When editing an interview shot from two angles, you might make clips from left angle blue and clips from right angle Red. This way you can have better grasp of your pacing in timeline, but you can also color correct your clips faster. You can also define labels for closeups and MCUs and apply single CC preset to all respective shot sizes at once.

Adobe hides this pretty well, but once you have your clips Labelled, you can automatically select all clips with the same label (=color) on timeline, and apply effect (or multiple effects) to every one of them. You just have to apply the clip(s) to any clip and then Edit – Copy it (them).

Then just go to Edit – Label – Select Label Group (you can make a keyboard shortcut) and Edit – Paste. Your effect is applied to every selected clip on current timeline. This can be a HUGE timesaver.

You can also set your own colors for labels, since the defaults are bit bland and similar. Now Adobe should enable Prmeiere to automatically import Bridge’s labels and make label colors visible in Thumbnail mode and it would be perfect.
