    PremPro CS4 enthusiasts,
I kind of took a quick glance at CS4 on adobe web site, and I have CS3, the only feature that I think might be attractive but I debate the worth to upgrade are:

    1. Ability to apply effects, transitions… to multiple clips (shouldn’t this be in a CS3.5 update?)

    2. AVCHD edit capability (I don’t need it, however)

Would someone tell me more about why should I spend $300 to upgrade?

    Thanks,
    Perry

background rendering in my mind is worth the upgrade price alone.

There plenty of workflow updates, further speed and workflow enhancements with DLink AE, Encore and PPro. Like Mike said the BG rendering App AME is well worth the upgrade.
BTW, Adobe won’t be providing any CS3 updates. Once the new s/ware is announced foreget any updates on older apps.

How many editors does it take to change a light bulb?

Yes, Thanks Jon and Mike. I know there will be no more CS3 updates. Well, all the functionality you mentioned does not interest me too much. I am just a casual editor, rendering in the background means little to me. I usually edit things, let it render if needed, go to bed. However, majority of the time, I simply render out to DVD or H.264. I could not render until I am done with the project, right? As far as better integration with other apps, well, I don’t have other apps, I have Premiere Pro CS3 standalone (of course with Encore and Onlocation). I know there is supposed to be onlocation upgrade, but I am not sure what they are referring to, and if my laptop can handle it or not.

What I was looking for, which I don’t see in CS4, and probably never going to see in Premiere and have to cough up the $ for AE:

    1. better chroma key & little more other effects

    Others:

    1) output HDV to tape (without lost of quality and having to reencode. It lost too much currently).

    Thanks,
    Perry

Better chroma key in AE? Are you using Keylight to Chroma Key? Keylight works great.

Now what I want is better Chroma Keying in PPro.

Since Adobe makes AE and PP, I would not think they would put better chroma keying into PP. Premiere is after all an editing app, not an effects app.

One more, which I think is very very important:

Able to preview HD while capturing!

There are like 50+ changes to Premiere Pro in CS4. A lot are workflow changes and the workflow changes they added are amazing!

I have been there a few times, these “workflow changes” do not attract me at all. Personally, I think some should have been intermediate upgrades, perhaps even free. Such as inability to apply effects to multiple clips, which if I am not mistaken, was in previous versions.
