  • Spent 2 ½ hours on the phone with Adobe tech support. Eventually the tech tells me this is a known issue and they have n work around….wait for an update. They’ve received many calls on this and hopefully a fix will be forthcoming.

    Terrific!

I’m a little surprised no one from Adobe jumped in here to let me and others know that it’s a software problem.

    thx…jw

  • I spoke with a friend who also has an FS7 and he had the same problem. It appears that seating the Metabones speed booster disagrees with the FS7 causing the 4th pin from the left when facing the camera to retract and not come back out to it’s operating position.

We used a pin point to get it unstuck, plus there appeared to be some minuscule brass shavings near the pin that I would presume came from the operation of seating the Metabones. My friend, Bill McMillian was on a shoot when his issue occurred and fixed the problem several times since he was switching back & forth, but eventually even the Metabones adapter quit working. He sent it into Sony and they turned it around pretty quick…about a week and fixed it for no charge.

Anyway, just thought you-all should know.

Thanks to Bill our angst filled morning was at least somewhat relieved since we have 4 days shooting next week with the FS7, but I’m hoping not to use the Metabones adapter during that time until I can send it into Sony for service.

    thx…jw

Colorista is a terrific program, but I’ve nothing but problems using it for long form in Premier Pro. Problems like near the end of my program the project won’t open until I delete the Colorista plugin. I switched to color correction/grading in Speedgrade which is a terrific program. Also the scene detect in speed grade should work too.

When i go to the Canon site, I can find no XF utility for OSX 10.9.5. When I select “Utilities “I get the message “no utilities for the OS”.

Are you-all using PC’s or am I missing something.

    Thx….Jim Watt

Good Point, but it happens on new projects with assets brought in through media browser. Just to test I started a new project, only imported 4 clips for the 4 cameras, made a multi clip, then a sequence from the multi clip just to be sure it wasn’t my ProRes timeline and have the same issue as in the my previous project.

These are also different clips and program than the first one in which I had the problem.

If you want excellent audio the Tascam DR60D is the way to go. with a cage you have a very slick easy to use configuration. You can double record with a sync tone into your camera and the quality of the audio in the Tascam is far superior to anything you can record directly to your camera regardless of the quality of your microphones.

I must admit, I’ve never looked at Resolve, assuming, incorrectly I see, that the free version wouldn’t work. I’ll download it today. We have a good reference monitor, mso that’s not an issue.

Yep. In the early days of practical HD for the common man we shot everything so that it didn’t need a grade. (We bought the first HD camera & deck that Panasonic ever sold in the world in ‘2000) have been learning ever since the beta tests of Cinewave in ‘2000 as I know you have as well.

Anyway, I was referring to “Adobe’s Speedgrade re long form which is not a reality. We don’t have the luxury/budget of going out to Resolve for a CC, though it would be great. We finance everything ourselves and therefore are beholding to no one, but of course “pay the price”.

Thanks again for stepping in and offering your experience and observations. We are very appreciative.

    Walter,

Thanks for the quick reply. Couldn’t get the project to come back with both MBL and Colorista II, though I did get it to open with Colorista only, so that saved me a bunch of time.

Thanks so much. Your advice helped me save a lot of time saving some of my CC work.

Does resolve work on long form (50 min shows)? Adobe’s CC is worthless for anything longer than a minute or few.

    thx…jw
