Not sure of the cost of FCE, but you could upgrade from FCP 3 to FCP 5.1 for $699 and receive the full studio package. Worth thinking about.

Similar here. I still have 2 fully functional BVU-800’s and several V0-5600’s, along with hundreds of legacy masters that need to be digitized for posterity. I imagine I’ll have tape issues when I finally get around to doing the job, or better yet, finding someone to do it cheap.

Get a new TT as well at the same time, so when you need it you’ll have it. I’ve been bit in the arse twice after discovering I needed to upgrade both for use in Tiger, then having to wait on the upgrade CD’s

I have an AJ-D450, and although it is of no help to you, the plug-in aja sent me fixed the issue you are having. I could not even capture prior to that, so I never made it to the edit to tape stage before installing the plug.
I always got an error message of some sort, “like tape is unthreaded”, or “problem with tape”, or some such

can’t you just drop your HDV sequence in a new 8 bit SD 4×3 sequence and render?

Has it worked before with 10.4.6, or did you recently upgrade and discover the problem?
Are you running QT 7.04?
If it’s the latter, you need to downgrade to QT 7.01 to work with FCP4.5 -
FCP 4.5 should work with QT 7.01 and recognize the deck, but not with QT 7.04.
