They just announced the change last week. Apple doesn’t always trumpet their news–frequently it’s announced quietly. Costs of upgrading to the Studio are very reasonable.

The specs on the MacBook Pro look good. Initial test reports using other apps indicate 2x-4x speed increases. We’ll have to wait until March to find out how the Pro Apps run on it.
I played with one briefly at MWSF and liked what I saw. Everything was definitely snappier and smoother playing back.
The new magnetic power cable was quite intriguing.

When you put the electron layer on the path, turn on Auto-Orient so the layer will curve with the path and stay perpendicular to it. The electron layer can still be animated independently of the position changes and auto-orientation, but rotations will have to be tweaked if there are sharp curves.

You might still be able to find copies on the shelves of local dealers and even some online retailers, but it is my understanding that Apple has discontinued the manufacture of the standalone apps. It’s the Studio or nothing at this point.
Upgrade prices are irresistable if you are planning on keeping your current hardware for a bit longer. After all, April 1 is the 30th anniversary of Apple, and NAB is a couple of weeks later.
Personally, I’ll wait a bit longer to jump into the Core Duo systems. I was very impressed by the iMac and MacBook Pro at Macworld last week, but couldn’t see how the pro apps run since they aren’t yet running (publically) on the Intel chips. I am definitely upgrading my hardware this year.

If I understand you correctly, you would sandwich the rotating head video between the full oval below it and a duplicate on the track above the head video. Be sure to mask the one above to reveal it only in the lower section.

Pro apps will not currently run on the new Intel-based Macs. Apple has announced that in March they will be shipping the universal binaries (versions that will run on Intel or PPC).
The individual Studio apps will no longer be sold separately and upgrades will be to the entire FC Studio. Prices will be, however, very reasonable.
