Ok, I’ll play around with the aja for playback, so far this has all been within fc, seeing the offset. It is like -4 frames off in playback…. to FC monitor.

I captured a test of countdown slate in pro50 and photo jpeg, and tried slipping the capture offset in Aja device preset and the playback offset, several frames ea. direction, nother ever changed, playing back frame by frame on the countdown slate, beep was exactly the same in all instances, so this offset tab in the device preset seems not to make a difference..

and the good news there, sort of, is that the capture was always correct, but then why does lip sync look off…

I am trying using a different computer now.. still same…
    arrrghh..

Thanks Jeremy, yes our FW800 drives are running on their own card, as the one you linked to.

and there are two places for offset at the bottom of the IO Preset page. One is -2, the other is playback 5fr. I presume you suggest that the preset is correct.

I was wondering should we take audio to a different drive, with this heavy off line compression going on. We are using a G5, dual 2g, pre-intel.

one place that this would happen would be sending the sequence to an Avid Via autoDuck, then the rubber banding will show up in the sequence, but I am not sure you could link to OMF audio elements unless they also would come across.

The rubber banding in the avid timeline would certianly work if you recaptured.

but, every omf audio export or import I have ever done, although not on FCP, was clean, no efx, or leveles. the bare bones.

I’m starting to hear that this is a common issue with this deck and with only certain lucky tapes.

Ill try the Aja route next.

So it looks like FCP CrossGrade time.
I am hearing conflicting info on ruinning 5.1 on a macbook.
When I tried to install 4.5 it said it wo9uldn’t install because
    of no agpGraphcis card.

Will the crossgrade from 5.0 to 5.1 allow 5.1 to install and
run on the macbook. It has 2gig of ram.
