Can these Best Buy available Firewire 400 250Gig Western Digital Drives be used on an older fcp G4 system, if all they are doing is DvCam Editing.

What is the best “buy in town” drive to get for someone who needs to do this.

I don’t see any Fw800 drives in the stores, and need to ship captured tapes as files for a low end editor’s project. Will the WD Drives spontaneously combust or something, or can they handle Dv ok….

    thanks

    Hi
I’ve been using a huge variety of external FW drives since about 2002 for DV editing without any major issues on G4 and G5 Macs, so there’s no reason to think that a current WD box won’t work,
A low cost PCI FW card in your G4 (if its not an iMac) to give a second FW channel will increase multi-drive flexibility….

I buy most of my FW drives through Other World Computing (macsales.com). I like their drives and they don’t seem to over charge.
