Yup, that’s rather normal thing to happen. The way it looks really depends on implementation of the “encoding to” and “decoding from” algorithm.
Anyway… if you’re experiencing this you should render the image as a PNG sequence for example, then shut everthing that slows down the render off, like lights, caustics, textures, blahblahblah, and render doubble sized RLA (i prefere RPF).
That should do the trick.

Dear friends!
I’m very sorry that you’re having problems using my preset. And yes… it is a preset indeed, just tweaked up a little bit.
Due to bandwidth overusage I had to shut my site down. You can read all about it on https://maltaannon.com/
But I’ve left one link opened for you, and this is it.
https://maltaannon.com/what-customeffects-are/It should explain everything. If you’re a Windows user make sure to go to the website and download the CustomEffect Installer. If the application will run, it means you don’t need VB6 runtimes. I guess that anyone who is using a system that meets AE requirements doesn’t need to download those. I left the link just in case.
If the preset says “Missing” when dropped don’t worry about it. It still works. The XML file is just for that (for hiding the “Missing” information).
The reason why controls doesn’t work after dragging the Preset is that the layer you drop it on needs to be modified slightly. Make sure to watch the tutorial and you’ll see what I mean.
I really suggest reading https://maltaannon.com/what-customeffects-are/ page, since I believe I’ve explained everything there.
Stay tuned. More tutorials are coming as soon as I’ll bring the site back online, which should be in no time I hope.
Take care! I’m glad you like my work!
All the best!

if i understand you correctly you may try separating all the paths so you’ll have them on separate layers, and animate them like that, or simply while animating the start and end properties make a hold keyframe in a given moment.

1.
calculating the vanishing point using perspective from the cameras point of view, which allows using 2d repeater modifier to dynamically create duplicates of the source layer. basically the idea is similar to creating 30 layers.2.
well, since I’m not very fluent in english it’s sometimes hard for me to speak my mind, not to mention making a joke… and I like making jokes… so it’s that much harder for me to record a tutorial than it is to other native english speakersbesides, my tutorials are mostly technical, and they do not explain how to create certain visual effects. instead i try to focus on solving problems, and finding better, faster, and more flexible ways of doing things.
therefore i have all kinds of people watching my tutorials: starting from the newbies and ending on the full time professionals. that makes it hard to find the balance between going into detail on every click and skipping the obvious stuff to cut the length of the tutorial

i assure you i do my best all the time. but since i started to be more in touch with english thanks to my “maltaannon’s hotline” i tend to craft my english everyday, so hopefully there will be no difficulties for me that i’ve mentioned above. -
It depends on what you wish to do. If you’re looking for a custom shape, than no, but there is a way of customizing the brush a little bit, for example when creating signatures.
Take a look at my tutorial:
https://maltaannon.com/after-effects/signature-custom-brush-tip/You might also want to consider using a particle system with a ability to emit custom particle shapes. I recommend Trapcode’s Particular. It’s really great, and I’m preparing some tutorials on all Trapcode plugins, so stay tuned.
Hope that helps.
